Republican lawmakers are calling on Governor JB Pritzker to opt Illinois into a federal program providing tax credits for donations to nonprofit organizations for K-12 scholarships.
State Representatives Mike Coffey said the Educational Choice for Children Act helps families afford tuition, services and materials and expands school choices.
The Federal Scholarship Tax Program will allow 100 percent tax credit on donations up to $1,700. The act goes into effect next year, but states must opt into the program.
