The weather didn't stop the fun at the spring Girls on the Run 5k.
On Saturday, May 16th, Lincoln Land Community College served as the vibrant backdrop for the annual Girls on the Run Spring 5K, presented by Memorial Health. Despite less-than-ideal weather conditions, the event proved once again that determination and community spirit can overcome any obstacle.
Participants of all ages gathered with excitement and purpose, ready to celebrate the culmination of the Girls on the Run season. While the weather created some challenges throughout the day, it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of runners, volunteers, or supporters.
98.7 WNNS was proud to be part of the event once again, continuing a long-standing partnership with Girls on the Run. Rocki, from The Morning Routine on 98.7 WNNS, brought high energy as the event host, keeping spirits high and the crowd engaged from start to finish. His presence helped create a fun, supportive atmosphere that encouraged every runner to keep going, no matter the conditions.
At Girls on the Run, teaching essential life skills is the cornerstone of their research-based programs. Trained volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development, including managing emotions, fostering friendships, and expressing empathy.
Even with the weather presenting a challenge, the 2026 Spring 5K stood as a resounding success. The support from families, volunteers, community partners, and sponsors like Memorial Health ensured the event delivered on its promise of encouragement, empowerment, and fun.
