Illinois lawmakers passed a fiscal year 2027 budget of nearly $56 billion in the pre-dawn hours on Monday.
The Senate approved the budget 37-21 followed by a 76-39 House approval after 4 a.m.
Democratic lead budgeteer Senator Elgie Sims said the budget is balanced and fully funds the state’s pension obligations. Republicans criticized what they say are nearly one billion dollars in new taxes and fees.
