Governor JB Pritzker said that he believes the Chicago Bears do not want to move to Indiana.
Pritzker said at an agriculture event in McLean County that Indiana Governor Mike Braun claimed he is bringing the Bears to the Hoosier State as a re-election ploy, but Pritzker does not believe that is happening.
Republican candidate for Illinois governor Darren Bailey said it’s too late to convince the team to stay, and called Pritzker’s words “empty promises.”
The National Football League team and Illinois lawmakers have gone back and forth for months on a potential agreement to keep the Bears at a site the team owns in Arlington Heights.
Illinois lawmakers failed to approve an agreement this spring, and the Bears announced in June they plan to build a stadium in Hammond, Indiana.
