Letters will be going out to Republic Services residential waste customers in Springfield who were inaccurately billed over the last few cycles.
Several residents alerted city council members of excessive charges for residential waste collection by Republic.
Republic’s Central Illinois General Manager Aaron Batiste explained to the council on Tuesday night that an error with Republic’s web portal signed customers up for unintended fees for garbage collection.
Batiste said the issue has since been rectified, and Republic will begin issuing credits in upcoming billing cycles.
Batiste asked anyone with questions or concerns to call the number on their Republic Services bill.
