A former mayor of Taylorville is the new director of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
Governor JB Pritzker announced the appointment of Jim Montgomery to the post on Friday. Montgomery begins at IDNR today. His formal appointment is pending Senate approval. Montgomery was the first executive director of the Illinois Prisoner Review Board.
He has more than 30 years of experience in the public sector, including serving as Commissioner and Director of Administration and Finance of the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.
Montgomery served two terms as mayor of Taylorville from 1997 to 2005, becoming the youngest mayor in the city’s history.
