A Springfield man has been sentenced to a total of 25 years in federal prison for drug trafficking and firearm possession.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of Illinois said 41-year-old Kevin Gibbs pleaded guilty in April.
According to court documents and testimony, Gibbs was arrested during a drug sale in 2023. Police connected shell casings from a shooting at a Springfield restaurant to a weapon Gibbs was carrying when he was arrested.
Gibbs was on supervised release from the Illinois Department of Corrections when he was arrested.
Springfield Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms investigated the case.
