A Springfield woman accused of hiding the death of her neighbor has been arrested after failing to appear in court.
Sangamon County court records indicate 60-year-old Gena English-Wheat was ordered on Monday to serve 15 days in jail.
Police said English-Wheat was the next-door neighbor and caretaker of 86-year-old Lillie Prindle. During a welfare check in November 2025, police found Prindle had been dead for an extended time.
Investigators said Prindle continued to receive Social Security and pension benefits, of which English-Wheat allegedly took $130,000.
English-Wheat is in the Sangamon County Jail. Her next court appearance is scheduled for September 28.
