A Cass County farmer has been sentenced to 42 months in federal prison and ordered to pay nearly $5 million in restitution for bank fraud.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of Illinois said 55-year-old Travis Murphy of Chandlerville was charged in connection with a loan first extended in 2016.
The office said the fraud was discovered when Murphy attempted to discharge approximately $8.4 million in loans in bankruptcy. Murphy was indicted in 2023 and pleaded guilty in 2025.
