The final step toward Catholic sainthood for a Central Illinois native takes place today in St. Louis.
The beatification ceremony for the Reverend Fulton Sheen begins at 2 o’clock in The Dome at America’s Center.
A watch party will be held in the Cathedral of Saint Mary in Peoria.
Sheen was born in El Paso, Illinois in 1895. He and his family moved to Peoria when he was a child. Sheen hosted “The Catholic Hour” on radio and “Life is Worth Living” on television with often-dramatic messages.
Pope Leo XIV praised Sheen during Wednesday’s daily audience at the Vatican.
