Former Republican Speaker of the House from Illinois Dennis Hastert has died. Hastert who was speaker of the House from 1999 to 2007 was 84.
After Hastert had left politics he faced allegations that he molested high school athletes when he was a wrestling coach.
Hastert eventually plead guilty to evading banking laws pertaining to hush money payments and was sentenced to 15 months in prison.
Hastert said he was “deeply ashamed” and admitted that he “mistreated” some of his athletes. But he never referred directly to sexual abuse.
Hastert according to the Kendall County Coroner died of natural causes.
