Newly widened Archer Elevator Road opened from Iles to Wabash

Springfield, state and federal officials Tuesday cut the ribbon on a near-mile-long segment of a widened Archer Elevator Road, from Wabash Avenue north to near Iles Avenue.”Welcome to the newest conversion of an old country road to a modernized city street,” Mayor Jim Langfelder said.The new segment has converted what was a narrow two-lane road, 18-feet across with poor drainage, to 36-foot-across pavement including a lane each way and a bidirectional center turn lane.
