Danville Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. has devised a plan to let kids who are home because of the coronavirus threat have some fun while honoring everyday heroes. The Mayor has announced plans for ‘Stay at Home Spirit Weeks’ that will run through April 7th. Each day will be designated a special day, and the mayor wants parents to take a picture of their kids, pets, or whoever or whatever best represents that day’s topic and post them under his picture on Facebook…..
{”The days that we’re going to have for example are ‘School Spirit Day’, ‘Crazy Hair Day’, ‘U.S.A. Day’, ‘Clash Day’, ‘World Awareness Day’, ‘Character Day’, ‘Stay at Home Heroes Day’, ‘Hat Day’, ‘Senior Citizens Day’, ‘P. J. Day’, and ‘Dress-up Day’. So we are going to make sure that we have a little fun,” said Mayor Williams, ”and I want you to show everybody what you have.”
Mayor Williams also wants kids to honor ‘everyday heroes’ by coloring, drawing or painting a picture of them….
{”So, for example, one day we might have something for the food service workers. One day we might have something for the first responders. One day we’re going to have something where we honor truckers. And what I want your kiddos to do is either color, draw, or paint a picture of folks that are doing those professions – and making sure they honor them in some way. They can say ‘Thank-you’, or they can just show the work that they appreciate,” said the Mayor.
Mayor Williams says he realizes some kids are better writers, so if they would rather not do artwork, they can write poems or thank-you notes about their everyday heroes. Then parents can take a picture of their project and post it online.
Mayor Williams says the activities are an effort to not only show community pride, but also put smiles on the faces of children who are being forced to stay at home because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Today – Monday, March 23rd, is School Spirit Day. Mayor Williams suggests you take a picture in your favorite school shirt, hat, etc, or of your diploma or school banner.
Tuesday – March 24th – is Crazy Hair Day.
Wednesday – March 25th – is U.S.A. Day.
Thursday – March 26th – is Clash Day
Friday – March 27th – is World Awareness Day
