Fire knocks out shed at Truman L. Flatt & Sons

A space heater was the likely culprit in a fire in a building used as a break room at Truman L. Flatt & Sons around 3:30 p.m. Monday.There was an initial report of heavy smoke coming out of the 9×12 shed. Springfield Fire crews had the fire out in about 10 minutes, said SFD Chief Allen Reyne.The contracting business is located in the 2300 block of North 16th Street.Power was disconnected to a portion of the building, Reyne said, but no disruption was anticipated.
