Florida police arrested the pastor of a megachurch after he held not one, but two services on Sunday. The sad part here? Hundreds of people violated the state’s safer-at-home order to attend these services. That order limits gatherings, including religious ones, to fewer than 10 people. A livestream of one of the services from Sunday, which lasted 3 1/2-hours, shows the large gather of people at the church.
Pastor Rodney Howard-Browne, according to jail records, turned himself in on Monday. He was charged with unlawful assembly and violation of a public health emergency order. Howard-Browne’s bail was set at $500.
The Sheriff’s Office placed a digital sign near the entrance of the church’s driveway asking people to practice social distancing.
