Federal prosecutors are recommending nearly six years in prison for the longtime friend and advisor of former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan. Capitol News Illinois reports ex-Springfield lobbyist Mike McClain was convicted alongside three others in 2023 for his role in electric utility Commonwealth Edison’s attempts to bribe the powerful House speaker. The feds on Thursday asked a judge to give McClain 70 months in prison ahead of separate sentencing hearings for the so-called “ComEd Four” starting next week. McClain and his co-defendants are asking for probation. Those hearings follow Madigan’s own in June, when he was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison after his February conviction on related corruption charges.
