Several teachers attended Monday’s Springfield School District 186 board meeting wearing red as negotiations continue on a new contract.
Teacher Andie Marvel addressed the board expressing disappointment that negotiations have moved to federal mediation after about a dozen sessions since January have failed to produce an agreement, adding that invitations for teachers to participate in collaborations seem empty without a contract.
The first negotiating session involving a federal mediator is scheduled for today. The current three-year teachers contract expires at the beginning of the school year next month.
