A jury trial is scheduled to begin today in Sangamon County for a Chicago man charged with shooting and beating an Illinois State Police trooper during a traffic stop in Springfield in October 2023.
39-year-old Cristobal Santana is accused of shooting Trooper Dakotah Chapman-Green several times during the stop at an apartment complex on Toronto Road.
The trooper recovered and has returned to duty. Santana was arrested a couple of hours after the incident after he was struck by a police vehicle. Santana was also accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend days before his arrest in Springfield.
