At the opening of their three-day KISS Kruise: Landlocked in Vegas event on Friday (November 14), the surviving members of KISS honored their late co-founder and iconic guitarist Ace Frehley, who passed away at 74 on October 16. KISS paid tribute to Ace during their “unmasked” set, with frontman Paul Stanley addressing the crowd. “Before we get going, we just wanted to take a moment to think about somebody who was at the foundation of this band. And we’re talking about Ace,” Stanley said from the stage, while adding, “We certainly had differences, but that’s what family is about. Why don’t we take a moment, a little quiet, and think about him looking down on us, and let’s have a moment for Ace.” Following the silent tribute, the audience began chanting, “Ace! Ace! Ace!” while Stanley encouraged fans to hold up electric candles in honor of their former bandmate, who died suddenly last month from blunt trauma injuries to his head following an accidental fall.
