The choice as the 36th superintendent of Springfield School District 186 was formally introduced during Tuesday evening’s board meeting.
Dr. Terrance Jordan is the district’s assistant superintendent of family, community and school leadership.
He began with the district in 2003 as a teaching assistant.
He quoted a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. sermon from 1968 about serving when describing his philosophy in his upcoming new role.
Jordan will take over for Jennifer Gill, who will retire at the end of June after 12 years as superintendent.
The board is expected to formally approve Jordan as superintendent in the next few weeks.
