The head of the Springfield School District 186 teachers union asked board members and district officials to take a closer look at the work that teachers perform in the wake of cuts and reassignments due to financial concerns.
Springfield Education Association President Aaron Graves addressed the board during Monday’s meeting with concerns over cuts and displacement of 45 union members, including a reminder that the first week of May is Teachers Appreciation Week.
Superintendent Jennifer Gill clarified that four teachers were cut since they were not qualified to take open positions.
The board re-elected Dr. Erica Austin as its president for a second term. Buffy Lael-Wolf was elected vice president.
