Ground was broken on Wednesday on a facility near Pawnee to train law enforcement, emergency responders and highway workers on traffic incident management.
The $14 million facility is a partnership between the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois State Police.
It features a test track replica of two- and three-lane interstate highways, ramps, streets, and several types of pavement.
Illinois State Police Director Brendan Kelly said the facility will help provide realistic training.
Illinois State Police Lieutenant Thomas Brengel said training improves safety for those who respond to highway incidents.
