Heavy rains in Springfield on Monday led to the collapse of a nearly 150-year-old sewer line in a local parking lot.
The parking lot located off Monroe Street between Pasfield and Lewis Streets has a 12-foot-deep sinkhole in it. The reason is that a masonry sewer line runs through the parking lot, and it dates back to 1883.
Fortunately, no one was hurt and no cars were damaged in the incident. Repairs to the parking lot should take about 2 days.
