The Springfield Branch NAACP says the sentence given this week to an emergency services worker for the death of a Springfield man is inadequate.
The local NAACP branch statement issued late Wednesday afternoon says the probation and community service sentence for Peter Cadigan does not adequately reflect the loss of the life of Earl Moore Jr. or the pain endured by Moore’s family.
Cadigan was also sentenced to 180 days in jail but given credit for 295 days already served.
Cadigan and fellow EMS worker Peggy Finley were charged with first-degree murder for Moore’s death from asphyxiation when strapped tightly face down on a gurney in December 2022.
Cadigan pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in April. The Springfield Branch NAACP also called for Cadigan’s EMT license to be permanently revoked
