The National Weather Service says the extreme heat will continue through Thursday night with heat index readings reaching 105 to 110 degrees.
High temperatures will continue to reach the low 90s this weekend with a chance of storms, although the risk of severe weather is low.
Cooling centers include City of Springfield offices, the Lincoln Library, St. John’s Breadline, Salvation Army on Clear Lake Avenue, Washington Street Mission and Helping Hands.
