Just 6 months into his 20-year sentence for the shooting death of Sonya Massey, former Sangamon County Sheriff’s Deputy Sean Grayson is asking the state to release him from prison under the Joe Coleman Act.
That act allows a person in custody who is terminally ill or is medically incapacitated to be considered eligible for release.
A three-member panel will make a decision within 90 days of receiving the application.
In making the decision the Prisoner Review Board will review a medical evaluation from the Illinois Department of Corrections, identifying the diagnosis, life expectancy, activities of daily living that require assistance, and the level of medical care required by the incarcerated person.
