Christopher Nolan’s 2026 blockbuster The Odyssey is doing more than bringing Homer’s legendary tale back into the spotlight. While the film has reignited interest in Greek mythology among audiences who may have only encountered the story as required reading in school, it is also sparking curiosity about the real-world locations connected to the ancient epic.
According to a recent analysis by the learning app Nibble, interest in visiting Troy surged dramatically following the film’s July 17 release. Google searches related to the ancient city increased by more than 3,400 percent, while searches for “flights to Troy” rose nearly 1,000 percent.
Troy was a real city, although it exists today only as an archaeological site rather than the thriving kingdom depicted in myth and film. Located in modern-day Turkey, the ancient city has been in ruins for roughly 1,500 years. While travelers won’t find the grand city portrayed in Hollywood adaptations, they can walk among the ruins of a place that has inspired storytellers, historians, and adventurers for thousands of years.
