A former candidate for Springfield City Council who pleaded guilty to charges connected to the drowning of a 7-year-old in his foster care was arrested Monday for possession of methamphetamine.
Springfield Park District Police arrested 50-year-old David Yankee on Monday night. Yankee was also initially charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and operating an uninsured vehicle.
Yankee pleaded guilty in April to endangering the life and health of a child for the March 2024 drowning of Barrett Koches in a pool at Yankee’s home on Winnebago Drive.
Yankee is serving two years probation as part of that sentence. He finished third in the election for Ward 3 alderman in 2023.
