The Illinois State Armory building has been renamed to honor the state’s 38th governor.
During a Tuesday morning ceremony at the Executive Mansion, Governor JB Pritzker signed an executive order renaming the structure as the Governor Jim Edgar Executive Office Building.
Edgar’s daughter Elizabeth said her parents had a long history with the armory.
Edgar served two terms as governor in the 1990s. Edgar died in September 2025 from pancreatic cancer.
The building is being renovated to house more than 870 state employees.
