This year’s Oak Ridge Cemetery Walk will feature the stories of six people representing everyday life in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The Sangamon County Historical Society’s annual walking tour is from 12 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, October 4 at the cemetery on Springfield’s north side.
Actors in period costumes will portray six individuals at their respective gravesites.
Kathryn Harris will portray Josephine Snowden Meek, a Black student who was in line to be Springfield High School valedictorian in the early 1900s when her grades suspiciously slipped and a white student received the honor.
The event is free. Donations are accepted. More information is at sangcohis.org.
