The city of Springfield has formally opened more than three dozen municipally-operated electric vehicle charging stations throughout the community.
During a Monday afternoon ribbon-cutting ceremony at one of the stations at 4th and Jackson streets in downtown Springfield, project manager Matt Heyen of Hanson Professional Services said the stations are placed throughout the city, including at University of Illinois Springfield.
City Water, Light and Power Electric Division Manager Mike Gorsek said nearly all of the 40 planned stations are operating.
Funding for the stations is through an Illinois Finance Authority Community Charging and Fueling Infrastructure grant.
