The Morning Routine with Rocki and Lacey was joined by two special guests for this Mental Health Monday. We love animals in the 98.7 WNNS studio and we couldn’t wait for the opportunity to share about how animals can help benefit mental health. Springfield Memorial Hospital (SMH) has expanded it’s animal-assisted therapy program, aptly titled, “DOGtors on Call,” thanks to a grant from the Springfield Memorial Foundation. They have four newly certified therapy dogs recently joined the care team, bringing smiles to patients and helping advance the healing process, as well as helping mental health.
In this audio, we talk to two people to discuss this program. Before “DOGtors on Call,” there was Kylo, a six-year-old German shepherd who inspired the program, and who continues to visit patients weekly alongside Michelle Geiss, an advanced practice registered nurse and Kylo’s human. Together, they’ve been bringing smiles and love to patients around Springfield Memorial Hospital. They’re all trained by Rediscover Your Dog, a training business started by Nate Shephard back in 2017 to help people create a healthier and happier relationships with their dogs.
Kyleigh is a part of the team that helps train the therapy dogs that help with DOGtors on Call. They strive to create a personalized experience with every client they take on. Every staff member at RYD started as clients, with a pet situation similar to your own, so we understand where you’re coming from and we’re here for you and your furry friend! You ca Hen always expect a welcoming environment when you join the RYD community. Hear more below!
