One driver died and the other driver was charged with driving under the influence after a two-vehicle crash in Springfield on Sunday morning.
Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon said on Tuesday that 62-year-old Darren Polk of Springfield was pronounced dead before 7 am shortly after his arrival at HSHS St. John’s Hospital. Allmon said an autopsy showed Polk died from injuries received in the crash.
A crash report obtained by the State Journal-Register said a vehicle driven at high speed westbound on Laurel Street by 27-year-old Roy Adams of Springfield ran a red light when it struck Polk’s southbound vehicle.
Charges filed Monday against Adams include aggravated DUI. His next court appearance is October 22nd. He is in the Sangamon County Jail.
