A Springfield City Council member has announced she won’t run for re-election.
Ward 8 Alderwoman Erin Conley said on her Facebook page that “heavy situations” in her personal life as well as working full-time and as a council member plus running for office would be more than she can currently accommodate.
Conley has served two terms on the council. She highlighted her initiatives including the Citywide Home Improvement Program to help low-income homeowners and access to paid parental leave for city employees.
Conley said she will continue as alderwoman until her term expires after the April 6 election.
The filing period for nominating petitions for that election is next Monday, October 19 through Monday, October 26.
