The $1.1 million cost of renewing Springfield’s contract with a gunfire detection service is scheduled for debate next week by the city council.
During Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting of the council, Ward 2 Alderman Shawn Gregory introduced an amendment to the contract with ShotSpotter which would require re-assessment of the devices’ placement as well as tracking of false positives.
The amendment was not initially adopted due to questions of cost; instead, the contract was placed on next week’s debate agenda for further discussion between police and the council members.
