There will be an open seat race for Springfield City Clerk in 2027.
Appointed City Clerk Chuck Redpath, who had said he was considering running next year, confirmed to WMAY on Monday that he will not run for the seat in 2027.
Redpath was appointed to the role after Frank Lesko resigned in 2024. Redpath had been Ward 1 Alderman before being appointed Clerk.
Two candidates have filed petitions to seek the position next year.
Former County Recorder Josh Langfelder, who now works for the Secretary of State’s office, has filed petitions. Spurgeon Johnson, a member of the Springfield Planning and Zoning Commission, also filed petitions.
