The White Stripes have unearthed footage of their very first appearance on TV. The clip is from May 28th, 2000 when the duo performed on a Detroit public TV program called Backstage Pass.
The pair played “Apple Blossom” and their cover of Son House's “Death Letter,” both found on their second album De Stijl, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month.
Jack White told us a few years back how the White Stripes worked onstage: “The White Stripes sort of work with no safety net and no set list, and I have to push the show continuously, and it's very energy-exerting all the time to always be pushing what's going on.”
Earlier this month, the White Stripes shared a 2000 clip of the duo playing “Death Letter,” taken from a show in Missoula, Montana. The live rarity is included in an upcoming De Stijl anniversary edition reissue that contains 25 previously unreleased tracks and live cuts.
Titled The Accompaniment To De Stijl: The White Stripes’ Sophomore Album, the set boasts two colored LPs — one white, one red — and a DVD housed in a hardcover case. It also includes an archival booklet filled with previously unseen photos, flyers and more.
