On April 18, Julien Baker and Torres will release their debut collaborative album, Send a Prayer My Way, featuring both a country-infused sound and style of storytelling. The album includes singles “Sugar in the Tank,” an indie-flavored honkytonk hoedown, and the sentimental new track, “Sylvia,” which is inspired by Torres’ dog. The idea for the country album arose nearly a decade ago, after the duo played a show together in 2016. After hearing Dolly Parton’s “Cracker Jack” on the radio, Torres wanted to capture those emotions in her own songs and she shares that same desire with Baker, who is one-third of the indie rock supergroup, Boygenius. Send A Prayer My Way features 12 tracks, each reflecting themes of radical empathy, second chances, and defiance, reminiscent of the works of Lucinda Williams and Loretta Lynn. (Rolling Stone)
