New York Dolls co-founder David Johansen is battling stage four cancer and a brain tumor. The 75-year-old punk legend’s daughter, Leah Hennessey, shared the news of his health struggles via a Sweet Relief Fund in his name that is seeking to raise money for the singer’s ongoing medical care. “Five years ago at the beginning of the pandemic we discovered that David’s cancer had progressed and he had a brain tumor,” Leah wrote. “There have been complications ever since. He’s never made his diagnosis public, as he and my mother Mara are generally very private people, but we feel compelled to share this now, due to the increasingly severe financial burden our family is facing.” In addition to the cancer diagnosis, Johansen has been bedridden and incapacitated following a fall at Thanksgiving that broke his back in two places. The Sweet Relief Fund is taking donations to support the iconic singer and actor, with specially designed “Luv” t-shirts also available to benefit Johansen. (Billboard)
