Friday, May 2, the University of Illinois Springfield’s Make A Noise Ensemble closes out the season by presenting a free experimental music show.

The university invites the Springfield public to “Prepare for an unforgettable evening as the Make A Noise Ensemble pushes the boundaries of music with contemporary works that challenge musicians and audience alike.

“This concert will certainly push you outside of your comfort zone, exploring new sounds, unexpected rhythms, and experimental compositions that redefine what music can be.”

Directed by veteran avant-garde composer Ron Silver, the Make A Noise Ensemble is comprised of UIS students and faculty, as well as members of the Springfield community with any level of musical experience and any talent to share. Make A Noise seeks to collaboratively study and experiment with contemporary sound: “This concert will certainly push you outside of your comfort zone, exploring new sounds, unexpected rhythms, and experimental compositions that redefine what music can be.”

Friday’s show will feature the Ensemble’s rendition of works by Pauline Oliveros, Steve Reich, and Francis Schwartz, along with the premiere of a piece composed collaboratively the Ensemble members themselves. “And,” the ensemble adds, “you will have some opportunities to make some noise along with us!”

The Ensemble’s May 2 performance begins at 7:00 PM, in the UIS Visual & Performing Arts Building’s Polly Roesch Music Room (VPA33). Entry is free of charge for all members of the public.
