By Michele Mitchell Jun 19, 2025 | 3:33 PM

On Wednesday, June 18th, a foursome from Woodward Community Media hit the greens at the Rail Golf Course in Sherman, Illinois, to participate in the 40th non-annual Caddy Shack Open. This golf event, known for its fun atmosphere and charitable mission, brought together community members and organizations for a day of camaraderie and giving back.

Representing Woodward Community Media were Tim Schweizer, John Spalding, Jim Ruppert, and Gary Moser. The team joined dozens of other golfers in supporting several impactful local charities, including:

  • Washington Street Mission, which provides essential services to Springfield’s homeless and low-income populations.
  • Compass for Kids, an organization dedicated to empowering underserved children through academic and social-emotional support.
  • Northside Children’s Community Library, a vital resource offering educational enrichment and literacy programs for local youth.

The Caddy Shack Open, though not held annually, has become a cherished tradition in the Springfield area. Its lighthearted name pays homage to the classic golf comedy, but the event’s purpose is all heart—raising funds and awareness for organizations that make a real difference in the community.

Whether it was sinking putts or sharing laughs, the Woodward Community Media team was proud to be part of this meaningful day.
