First-year student enrollment at University of Illinois Springfield this semester increased by 50 students over last fall according to enrollment figures released by the school on Wednesday.
The 312 first-year student enrollment this fall is a 19 percent increase from one year ago. Total enrollment at UIS after the first 10 days of the fall semester is down nearly 300 to 4,364, including about 23-hundred undergraduate students.
The university attributed the overall decline to a drop in the number of international students due to visa processing delays, increased documentation requirements and limited appointments at US consulates preventing many students from arriving in time to begin the semester.
