The Springfield Public School District 186 board approved the fiscal year 2026 budget during a special meeting on Monday evening.
Board member Debi Iams cast the only vote against the budget. The 268-million-dollar spending plan has a deficit of 17.9 million dollars, which will be covered by reserves.
It’s the third consecutive deficit budget with projected fund reserves of 28 million dollars at the end of the year. District Director of Business, Finance and Operations Steve Miller said the budget includes three million dollars in cuts.
