Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Housing Development Authority are touting the success of the SmartBuy program, which offers new homebuyers 30-year fixed rate mortgages with up to $40,000 in student loan relief for the purchase of a home in Illinois.
Over 530 homebuyers have been assisted under the program, which the IHDA reports has eliminated sixteen million dollars of student debt in the past twelve weeks.
Applications for SmartBuy have closed for this year, though the IHDA’s Access Mortgage program remains open.
