The Sangamon County Mental Health Commission presented its final report on Monday to the Sangamon County Board calling for establishment of a county mental health board that would facilitate and fund mental health services.
The commission proposed the board’s funding would be through a one-half-percent sales tax generating an estimated 14.7 million dollars annually.
Commission member Dr. Kari Wolf said the county has many unmet mental health needs.
A sales tax increase would be put before county voters on the March 2026 ballot. The Sangamon County Board also approved the county budget for the fiscal year beginning December 1st of more than 216 million dollars.
