If you’ve lived in Springfield for any length of time, you already know Jim Leach. He’s been a trusted voice in local broadcasting for more than 40 years, and chances are, you’ve heard him on WMAY or seen him on stage at The Muni or Hoogland. Jim started his radio journey right here in 1983, and since then, he’s been part of the soundtrack of Springfield life—covering news, hosting talk shows, and shaping the conversation in Central Illinois.
From his early days as a reporter at WICS-TV to decades behind the mic at WMAY, WNNS, and other stations longtime listeners will remember, Jim has always been about keeping our community informed and connected. Even though he now serves as Public Information Officer for the Illinois Department of Public Health, his roots in local media run deep—and his passion for Springfield shines through everything he does.
When he’s not working, you’ll probably find Jim on stage. He’s appeared in countless productions at The Muni and Hoogland Center for the Arts, and this February (2026), you can catch him as Uncle Fester in Springfield Theatre Centre’s The Addams Family Musical (yes, with the shaved head!).
Jim is married to LaDonna Wilson, a realtor and retired teacher, and together they’ve built a life full of family—four kids and three grandkids who keep things lively.
