Springfield is coming together the way it always does—shoulder‑to‑shoulder, heart‑to‑heart—to lift up one of its most beloved local landmarks: The Curve Inn. After a devastating fire tore through the historic Route 66 bar on February 20, 2026, the community is wasting no time stepping in with support, music, and the kind of fellowship that makes this city feel like family. The Morning Routine had the opportunity to talk to Amy Merchant, owner of the Curve Inn and Terry Farmer from the Knights of Columbus about our upcoming fundraiser, cosponsored by our very own Woodward Community Media-because that’s what we’re all about here: Community!
What Happened at The Curve Inn?
As Amy shared with us, on the morning of February 20, firefighters were called to The Curve Inn around 9 a.m., where heavy flames and smoke were pouring from the beer garden. Crews battled intense wind gusts—some near 40 miles per hour—which worsened conditions and contributed to a partial roof collapse. The beer garden was completely destroyed, and damage extended into the bar itself. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The Curve Inn is more than just a bar—it’s a local Route 66 icon dating back to 1932, beloved for its live music and loyal customer base. Owners Ami and Ray Merchant have already expressed their determination to rebuild and preserve as much of the historic structure as possible. A GoFundMe supporting the staff quickly gained traction, raising tens of thousands of dollars within days.

A Community That Shows Up
As soon as news of the fire broke, support from patrons, musicians, and local businesses poured in. People gathered across the street the day of the fire, hugging and consoling staff as firefighters worked for hours to contain the blaze. The outpouring of love hasn’t slowed down since-and we’re thrilled to be able to help support them by taking it to the next level with our community fundraiser in collaboration with the Knights of Columbus,

Why This Event Matters
The Curve Inn has been a gathering place for decades—a spot where friends meet, bands get their start, and Springfield’s sense of community shines. After the fire, the Merchants made clear that the road to reopening will take time, resources, and help from the community they’ve served for so long.
This event is a chance for all of us to show up, pitch in, and make sure this Route 66 staple returns stronger than ever.
