The annual Workers’ Memorial Day commemoration in Springfield included a local golf course superintendent who recently lost his life on the job.
The Illinois AFL-CIO and the Springfield & Central Illinois Trades & Labor Council hosted the annual ceremony remembering fallen workers on Tuesday morning.
Illinois Workers Compensation Chairman Michael Brennan emphasized the need for safe jobs.
Added to the local list of fallen workers this year were Decatur electrician Samuel Ward, Hillsboro coal miner Jessie Edward Smith; and Springfield golf course superintendent Daniel Crumrine.
The ceremony marked the 55th anniversary of the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
