The National Weather Service at Lincoln confirmed five EF-1 tornadoes were part of the severe weather system that moved through Central Illinois on Monday evening.
The first tornado traveled near Mount Pulaski and Chestnut for about 15 miles, followed by another EF-1 tornado for about six miles in DeWitt County.
The strongest winds were estimated at 100 miles per hour in a tornado near DeLand and Weldon. That storm damaged the roof of DeLand-Weldon Elementary School. In-person classes resume there today.
Other EF-1 tornadoes were a brief storm in eastern DeWitt County and a 15-mile-long storm near Mahomet. The storms damaged trees and some roofs and outbuildings. No injuries were reported.
