Law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty were remembered in Springfield on Thursday during the annual Illinois Police Officers Memorial.
Springfield Mayor Misty Buscher said police are defenders of the communities.
Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias said police take on tremendous responsibility on behalf of all citizens.
Two officers died in the line of duty in Illinois in 2025, Officer Krystal Rivera of Chicago and Detective Tim Jones of Park Ridge.
